Both projects under Big House Ministries, Inc (Thorn Creek Youth Ranch and The Father's House of Prayer on
Thorn Creek) have been put on temporary hiatus. (The Website is still below)
After funding fell through yet again in the winter of 2007-2008, the owners of the Thorn Creek Property asked the
Benedict family, after they had already lived onsite for 4 years as initial Big House Ministries staff, to move offsite so they could put the
property back on the open market. The Benedicts along with their 8 kids did so in the spring of 2008 after the snow melted, and put the
whole project on hold. The property went on the open market, though as of January 2009, it was still unsold and
sitting vacant.
After moving twice, the Benedicts thought they had found new property to begin again with to build a prayer
retreat center. But after only living (renting) in this new location for five months while trying to figure out a
way to put together a downpayment, disaster struck yet again when the bank initiated foreclosure proceedings against
the actual property owner and put the house/property where the Benedicts are curently living up for trustee sale, scheduled for
May 14'th, 2009.
Meanwhile, the Benedict's have taken on multiple Compassion International children to support, become
Compassion International Advocates, as well as have
initiated a search for the two youger siblings still in Russia of three of their already adopted children.
Through their efforts to reach out to, and shelter, at-risk kids already in the local community around them, at
least one local teenager already calls Tim and Karen her second mom and dad.
Since they have been prevented from building the youth camp and prayer center of their dreams twice now, the Benedicts
have been re-evaluating what they can actually work towards. Though they still dream of getting the Thorn Creek
property someday,
they are currently simply focusing their efforts on 1. paying their bills, 2. praying to buy the property where they are at right now before it
goes to
trustees sale, 3.building online businesses to support themselves (and eventually their dreams)
during the recession, 4. both Karen and Tim writing and publishing various Inspirational, fiction,
and non-fiction books, 5.raising their 8 kids,
and reaching out to local
at-risk kids on a one-on-one basis, 6.while still trying to find and adopt the younger
siblings of three of their already adopted children, that they believe are currently lost in the old soviet orphanage
system.
If their online businesses (http://www.timbenedict.net)
suceed, it is still their desire to establish a camp and/or youth ranch for at-risk kids and the russian and hispanic
communities of the Treasure Valley, as well as a prayer retreat center,
somewhere in the vicinity of Idaho City, ID.
If you desire to support them in their dreams, please patronize their new business sites (get to them through
http://www.timbenedict.net), share their links
with your friends,
and pray for them.
